DARPA’s Dialysis-Like Therapeutics (DLT) program is looking  to develop integrated, portable and solid technology that would enable widespread deployment of dialysis treatment to fight sepsis.
While this is primary research for military casualties it also has  civilian  uses. The DTL program has successfully demonstrated one of the first technologies for pathogen removal via blood filtration via an artificial spleen.
